  • Nationalization of the Canal

    On July 26, 1956, President Gamal Abdel Nasser announces his plan to nationalize the Suez Canal.
  • British Kicked Out of Egypt

    British men had started to be expelled from Egypt. They were accused of spying, but on August 28, the first two British men were expelled.
  • Secret Meeting

    In October, Anthony Eden, former British Prime Minister, met with Guy Mollet, former French Prime Minister, and David Ben Gurion, former Prime Minister of Israel. They met in secret to discuss an armed attack on Egypt.
  • Israeli Force

    In 1956, days after the secret meeting between the Prime Ministers of Britain, France, and Israel, the Israelis had forced their way towards the Suez Canal, ater to be joined by the British and the French, and nearly the Soviet Union.
  • Israel Invades Sinai Peninsula

    On October 29, Israeli troops invade and capture the Sinai peninsula.
  • Peacekeeping Army

    From late 1956-1957, the Canadian Armed Forces took part in a United Nations peacekeeping army sent to Egypt. An army designed by Lester B. Pearson, who later went on to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.
