    It's very warm here. I love the warm weather and I hope it never gets cold. When it's warm I go to the garden with my mother and we pick tomatoes off the vines. We also go out and pick lots of lovely flowers.

    We have now just gotten to Ellis island. My mother told me to stay close and never let go of her hand. We had to go through the entrance of a big building and the people there had to make sure we were healthy. Now we are going out the back looking for my mothers sister and her husband at a place called the kissing both.

    Today I turn 13. I'm so happy and hope this will be the best birthsday ever. Mother made me a chcolate cake my favorite. I am also having some friends over. I can't wait.

    Mother just had my little brother John. The doctor said he was the healthest baby he ever saw. I love him to death. I help mom out a lot with him too. I cant wait till he is older so we can go to California.

    In two months we are going to go to California. We heard there is lots of gold there and we want to see if we can find any. We also heard that when you find gold we could have lots of money and move to another house and have enough money to but food and goods that we need.

    It was a long trip to California. Some of us went by boat and some went by wagon. We went by wagon. We faced many challenges along the way, but we got through it.

    Right now we are traviling to California. We have been travling for weeks now and it's getting very tiring. I hope we get to California soon and that there is still gold there. My feet hurt a lot from all this walking. My mother is very tired too from holding my brother John all this way. Right now I'm sitting in our wagon trying to go to sleep.

    We are now at California. We havent found any gold yet but we are still looking. Father has been out all day and hasnt found anything but rocks. I have made friends with some of the other childern here with their familes. They havent found anything ether. My father said we will spend one more week here and if we dont find anything we will go back home.
