    When Xerces does this he asks for the entire of Greece to submit to him or face his fighting force (the Persian Army) and moslikely end up under Persian rule. When he does this Xerces purposely omits Sparta ans Athens.

    The Greek city-states didn't have armies big enough to fight the Persian Army on their own so they formed an alliance called the Greeks.
  • The Persian Army marches foward

    The Persian Army marches foward
    Starting in the year of 480BC the great Persian Army starts marching through northern Greece including the cities Thrace, Macedonia and Thessaly.
  • The Persian Army arrives at Thermopylae

    The Persians arrived at Thermopylae around mid-August. When they got thier the Greeks were already there waiting for them to arrive.

    On the fifth day of getting to Thermopylae Xerces orders 500 of his archers to fire on the Greeks hoping to cause harm but he fails. After that he orders a charge and that also fails. The Greeks held of the hold day only losing 2 or 3 men.

    On the second day Xerces sends his Inmortals. This was an elite group of fighting men that were trained to go in kill and get out quickly causing alot of damage, but that day was an execption. The Inmortals had no more result than those who died the day before: NO DAMAGE. Only the Persian died that day.

    A local tells Xerces that there is a goat path that goes around the Greek lines. The Greek are surrounded on a mountain and were killed.

    At the same time of the Greek defeat at Thermopylae the Greek navy was also holding off the Persian navy. When they heard they no longer needed to protect the Greek flank at Thermopylae the retreated to the strait of Salamis.
  • The Battle of Salamis

    The Battle of Salamis
    The Greek lure the Persian navy into the Strait of Salamis and destroy a large part of their navy. This is a huge defeat for the Persian becuase they had the worlds best naval fleet.
  • Xerces leaves but leaves behind Mardonius

    Xerces leaves but leaves behind Mardonius
    For fear of being trapped and slaughtered in Greece, Xerces leaves and leaves behind Mardonius to finish the attack.
  • The Battle of Plataea

    The Battle of Plataea
    After many unsuccesful tries to take over the Greeks "peacefully" the Mardonius tries to lure the Greek forces to open land where he could use his cavalry but fails. In this battle the Persian cavalry is slaughtered, the infantry was slaughtered and many more men were killed in their tents.

    The Greek navy was fighting the Persian navy. When news of Persian defeat at Plataea reached them their morale boosted and the destroyed a great part of the Persian defeat.
  • Peace with Persia

    Peace with Persia
    After almost an century of fighting the Greek and Persian signed the Peace of Callias. This ended the war even though the Second Persian Invasion of Greece ended after their lose at the battles of Mycale and Plataea.

    The Athenians under guidance of Themistocles decided to build a massive fleet of triremes that would be necessary for the Greeks to fight the Persians.
