Capter 1 - An Unexpected Party
Chapter 1: An Unexpected Party is about how the main character, Bilbo Baggins. who is a hobbit (a samll creature with large feet) is visited by 13 dwarves (short fat creatures) and the great wizard Gandalf. Gandalf asks Bilbo if he would like to go on a grand adventure. The dwarves and the wizard throw a great party. The party really has Bilbo worried. After a night of fun Bilbo decides to go on the adventure with everyone else. Little does he know the adventure will change his life completely. -
Chapter 2 Roast Mutton
Chapter 2: Roast Mutton is about how Bilbo Baggins starts to go on the adventure. The group begins by heading East. As they start to go through uncharted territory the dwarves and Bilbo run into a group of trolls. Their names were William, Tom, and Bert. The trolls capture the team and debate on how they will cook and eat them. After losing track of time the sun rises and the trolls are turned to stone. Gandalf then comes and frees everyone. -
Chapter 3 A Short Rest
Chapter 3: A Short Rest is about how Gandalf the great leads the rest of his party to a friend of his, Elrond. Elrond is a brave, strong, and wise person who has a house at the beginning of the Misty Mountains. This is where everyone would stay for 3 days. The dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf then pack supplies for their journey as they head into the Misty Moutains. -
Chapter 4 Over Hill and Under Hill
Chapter 4: Over Hill and Under Hill is about how the group starts their journey through the Misty Mountains. Soon it begins to rains so they find a cave to stay in. As the group falls asleep Bilbo notices that near the back of the cave there is an entrance with goblins swarming out of it. Bilbo then alerts everyone of the goblins. The goblins are then able to capture everyone but Gandalf. -
Chapter 5 Riddles In The Dark
Chapter 5: Riddles In The Dark is about how everyone but Gandalf has been captured by goblins. They are then taken inside the mountain and transported to the Great Goblin. When all hope seems lost and death is near ceartain. Gandalf suddenly comes out of nowhere and kills the Great Goblin. -
Chapter 6 Out Of The Frying - Pan into the Fire
Chapter 6:Out Of The Frying - Pan into the Fire is about how all the goblins are frantic and the gang is on the run. In all the comotion Bilbo falls and becomes unconscious. When Bilbo comes to he is lost and the group is nowhere to be found. Bilbo finds a golden ring and comes face to face with a creature named Gollum. Bilbo and Gollum play a riddle game and Bilbo wins. Bilbo then runs away and finds a door leading outside, he then finds the rest of his friends. -
Chapter 7 Queer Lodgings
Chapter 7: Queer Lodgings is about how Bilbo has just caught up with his friends. The group knows that they must stay on the move for goblins will surely be after them. As they run through the forest they hear a terrible noise. It is from a group of wolves who are friend with the goblins. Everyone quickly climb into the nearby trees. A group of goblins then swarm the trees and begin to light them on fire. When the end seems near the Lord of the Eagles swoops in and saves them. -
Chapter 8 Flies and Spiders
Chapter 8: Flies and Spiders is about how Bilbo and the dwarves begin to go through the dark and dreadful forest of Mirkwood. They then come to an enchanted stream. Bilbo and the rest of the gang fall asleep in the forest. When they awake they are stuck to a giant spider web, Bilbo frees himself and kills the giant spider. In the meantime, Thorin has been captured by the Wood-elves who were feasting in the forest. They take him to their king, who has him thrown in the dungeon. -
Chapter 9 Barrels Out of Bound
Chapter 9: Barrels Out of Bond is about how the dwarves are captured by the wood - elves. They are taken to their king who orders them to be put into different cells with food and water. Bilbo hides in the darkness and steals the keys from a guard. He is able to release everyone so that they can escape on barrels in the stream. -
Chapter 10 A Warm Welcome
Chapter 10: A Warm Welcome is about how Thorin tells everyone that the King Under the Mountain has returned and everyone is enthusiastic about him being there. Everyone except The Master of Lake-town who doesn't want Thorin to take over control of Lake-town. The Master of Lake-town gives Thorin supplies and ponies to help the Company continue to the Lonely Mountain. Although he hopes Smaug, the dragon, will kill Thorin. -
Chapter 11 On The Doorstep
Chapter 11: On The Doorstep is about how the group reaches the town of Dale. They find a secret door near the side of the mountain but can't open it. Over a period of days, the dwarves use all kinds of tools to try to open the door, but have no success. Thorin comments that autumn is almost at an end, when Bilbo and the dwarves wait for the setting sun to reveal the hidden keyhole, and Thorin opens the door with the key Gandalf gave him with the map. -
Chapter 12 Inside Information
Chapter 12: Inside Information is about how Bilbo explores the passage ways inside the mountain and locates Smaug the dragons lair. Smaug is asleep and Bilbo is then able to take Smaugs golden cup. Then Smaug awakes and is outraged when he notices the golden cup is missing. Smaug then searches for the theif. Bilbo quickly runs outside and urges the dwarves to close the door that leads to Lake-Town. Although this is a wasted attempt and he crushes the door and leaves anyway. -
Chapter 13 Not At Home
Chapter 12: Not At Home is about how the dwarves are trapped in darkness of the mountain, not knowing where Smaug is. Bilbo decides to go down the tunnel once again. Bilbo suddenly yells for help. The dwarves come to rescue him and when they see the hoard, they begin going through it, putting on some of the golden armor and picking up weapons and jewels. They quickly escape the mountain by following the Running River and find shelter. -
Chapter 14 Fire and Water
Chapter 14: Fire and Water is about how Smaug attacks Lake -Town. Although the towns - people put up a good fight Smaug still sets the town on fire. Then Bard, one of the archers defending the town shoots him in a soft spot and kills Smaug instantly. Victorious Bard is declared King of Lake - Town. -
Chapter 15 The Gathering of the Clouds
Chapter 15: The Gathering of the Clouds is about how the dwarves go back to the mountain.The thrush that had attracted Bilbo's attention outside the secret door to the Lonely Mountain is revealed to be Roäc son of Carc. Thorin wants to go back to the Mountain. The dwarves work to fortify the mountain against the Elvenking, te dwarves are told the elves ar partying so they have a party as well! Bard then comes and tells them he wants a part of the treasure. Thorin refueses to give up the treasure -
Chapter 16 A Thief in the Night
Chapter 16: A Thief in the Night is about how Thorin looks for the Arkenstone, the most valuable object in the hoard. A raven brings the news that Dain (Thorins cousin) is coming with five hundred dwarves.Bilbo takes the Arkenstone and shows it to Bombur. Bilbo then decides to give the Arkenstone to Bard, as soon as Bilbo leaves Gandalf appears. -
Chapter 17 The Clouds Burst
Chapter 17: The Clouds Burst is about how Bard tells Thorin how he got the arkenston. Bilbo explains how it cam into his possession which enrages Thorin. Gandalf then appears. Thorin promises Bard to redeem the stone with one-fourteenth of the hoard. Bard goes out to meet Dain, approaching with his five hundred dwarves, and refuses to allow him to pass. The battle between the wolves, goblins, dwarves, elves, andmen takes place. Bilbo is then hit with a stone and passes out. -
Chapter 18 The Return Journey
Chapter 18: The Return Journey is about the battle between the five armies. Bilbo is found and carried to thorin who is dying after being badly hurt. He finds that Beoron who they had met before had also joined the battle. Thorin is buried with the Arkenstone and Orcrist; Kili and Fili, who also died in battle, are buried, too. Part of the treasure is given to Bard and Gandalf takes bilbo back home with him. -
Chapter 19 The Last Stage
Chapter 19: The Last Stage is about how Bilbo comes back to his hobbit hole. Before he goes home he returns to Elrond and then goes on to his house, which is being sold at auction, because he is presumed dead.The story ends with Bilbo settled once again in his hobbit-hole, more comfortable than ever before and still thinking back on his great adventure
