Alexander passionately pursues King Darius, to take him prisoner. King Darius is found close to death by Alexander's army. After an exchange of words with a Macedonian solider, Darius dies from his javelin wound. Alexander sends his body to Darius's mother and order for him to have a grand funeral.

Alexander became critically ill for ten days and died on June 10. His last words state that his vast kingdom shall be given " to the strongest ". The reason as to why Alexander died is still unknown.
