Cortes made a stop in the Mayan Lands, (Current day Tabasco), where he defeated Native attacks, before making peace. It seemed to a step up in Cortes success, but soon he found the real weapon! In Potonchan, he found Malinche who would serve as a guide and interpreter. This was of great help for their expedition.

On the way to Tecnochtitlan, the Spanish came accross the Tlaxcalans and they decided to attack. They lost and explained that they were enemies of the Aztec as well and would join the Spanish as allies when "The Final Battle" occured.

Cortez heads inland from Veracruz. Once Cortez heard of the death of many of his men in Veracruz during the Aztec attack, he took the opportunity to hold Montezuma captive.

When Cortez arrived in Tenochtitlan, Motezuma and his people thought he was a god as the legend fore told. They treated him great and let him reside in one of the best Atzec palaces. This gave him time to plan and later holds Montezuma captive. (REFER TO "VERACRUZ 1519")

Since Montezuma thought that Cortez might be Querzalcoatl, they treated him like a god and gave him a palace to reside in. About a week after Cortez arrived, he decided to hold Montezuma captive,

Here, Cortez went to fight soilders sent to arrest him, and instead wins their loyalty in Veracruz.

This is where Cortez and the spanish tried to escape Technotitlan. They wanted to leave so they can try to takeover the Aztec and so Cortes can become govenor.

When Cortez returned to Tenochtitlan, he found his men trapped, but managed to reach the place that they were. He tried to order Montezuma to speak to his people to try to pursuade them to make peace with the Spanish. However, Montezuma was jeered, (rude comments were thrown at him), and seriously hurt by stones thrown at him and the Aztec remained aggressive/mad.

After 6 months of Cortez and his men staying in Tecnochtitlan, Cortez recieved a message that men were coming to arrest him for disobeying orders so he had to leave immediatly as they have already reached Veracruz.

After getting bent up so bad from trying to leave Technotitlan, they escaped to Tlaxcala so they could recover their matirel and their men, They stayed in the "recovering" stage for just a couple of months.

Many of the Aztecs started becoming effected by the Spanish that came and started having symptons for diseases like smallpox. Since the Aztec arn't used to this virus, they went down quite fast.

This is when Alvarado accidentally mistaked a religious ceremony of the Aztec to be a plot against the Spanish! Alverado ended the ceremony immediatly and had a brutal slaughter of the people attending the event. (Date of event credits go to Wiki.)

This is when Cortez prevented food and water from entering Technotitlan for about 3 months. This contaminaed some of the water and made some more of the Aztec sick. On top of this, they were trying to deal with the Smallpox disease. The spanish however liked this because it lowered/weakened the aztec for batle in the near future.

Now that the Aztecs have been weakened from disease and lack of water and food, the Spanish decided to attack for a secound time.. and this time they defenitly won.
(Date was an educated guess since in the textbook it said food and water for cut off for 3 months. I made the assumption of this attack 3 months after they cut off food and water.) -
Now Cortes has returned to Tenochtitlan with the Tlaxcalans as well as some members from Texaco. All of them turned against the Aztec and with almost half of the Aztec gone from Smallpox, and the rest very weak... It wasn't very hard to take them down.

The last few Aztecs surrenderd at the said date above. The Aztec huey tlatoani, Cuauhtemoc, was taken prisoner and hanged. The great Aztec empire was no more.

This is when Cortez became govenor of New Spain, or what was Technotitlan and area. He defeated the Aztec and won the land. (Which wasn't hard because the Aztec population went way down and the ones that lived were weak. This definetly had a effect on their fighting skills.

Mexico city was then built on top of the Aztec city since the Spanish covered and burned almost everything aztec and built Mexico city on top of it. Done by the Spanish.
