    After the First and Second Estates locked the rights of voting for the Third Estate, the Third Estate went to the Tennis Court. While they were there, they promised not to leave until they wrote the firt constitution. This process took two whole years.

    The Bastille was a prison that was located in France. Commoners of the Third Estate attack the Bastille in order to free debtors and as a symbol of oppression. Also, there were rumors that there would be weapons hidden somewhere inside of the prison.

    The National Convention was the form of government that came after the National Assembly. This new form of government was the one to form The Committee of Public Safety.

    The Reign of Terror

    The goal of the Committee of Public Safety was to protect the Republic from "internal enemies". Internal enemies were people who supported monarchy and wanted to revive it. Under the leadership of Maximilien Robespierre, over 30,000 people were accused of being internal enemies and were executed by guillotine. The terror ended when Robespierre was beheaded himself as a result of falsely accusing people.

    The Directory was formed as an executive authority for France. It consisted of 5 Directors. It was eventually tormented with corruption and economic problems.

    The Directory was the form of government that came after the National Convention. In lasted for four years until in was overthrown in a coup d' etat.

    Napoleon establishes a Consulate government
    Napoleon Bonaparte overthrew the Directory in a coup d'etat and replaced it with a Consulate government. As a result of this, he gained control of of the country.
