Royal Family Attempts to Flee
King Louis and his family try to go to Austria to escape the upheaval but they get caught and put on house-arrest for attempting to abandon their country. -
King is Executed
After being put on trial, on January 17th King Louis XVI is condemned to death by guillotine on charges of "conspiracy against liberty." He is executed on the 21st.
