    Meeting of the estates-general
    The meeting of the estates-general was the first meeting of the clergy, nobility and lower class in 175 years. The king knew if he kept living like he was there would be a revolt so he called this meeting to hopefully avoid that.
  • National Assembly and Tennis Court Oath

    When the assembly was stalled the third estate met and called themselves the National Assembly. For the next three days they waited and the assembly was not called. After the three days were done the people met in a tennis court and took the Tennis Court Oath.

    After a while there started to be tention that came all the way to the capitol. Finally the people reacted and stormed the Bastille(a french prison) to free the people and secure weapons and gun powder.

    Fear was high in France because the people were starting riots. To prevent a war or fued the National Constitute Assembly signed the Declarationof the Right's of Man and the Citizen

    On Sep 3, 1791 the first written constitution in frnce was written but it was not what the people wanted. It gave the king veto powers and the abbility to appoint ministers. This didn't go well with the citizens so people like Maximilien de Robespierre to stir up a want for a more republican government.

    After the government declared war on Austria and Prussia fearing that there were french emigres making alliances people wee tired of th government. After an extremist named Jacobins heard about this he could ot stad the government so he attacked the royal residence and took the head of it down. He arrested the king.

    The months following the arrest of the king he ws tried for treason and crimes against the state. When they found him guilty he was centenced to the guillotine and his wife (Marie-Antoinette) had the same fate 9 months later.
