    The meeting of the Estates-General was a gathering of the representatives from the three estates. The third estate decided to form the National Assembly. As the National Assembly, they passed laws and reforms in the name of the French people.     Because the prices of bread continued to rise, thousands of women started to riot. They went to Versailles with weapons demanding that the National Assembly provide bread. They then broke into the palace and insisted that the king and queen go back to Paris, which they agreed to do. The women signaled a change in power by forcing the royal family out of Versailles.

    Under the impression that his family was in danger, Louis decided to try and escape Frace. While he was getting close to the border to the Austrian Netherlands, Louis was caught. He was then taken back to Paris. By doing this, Louis reduced his own power even further and increased that of his enemies in the government.

This started a war that resulted in the killing of over a thousand prisoners and the imprisonment of louis and his family.     Napoleon Bonaparte was a French general that was very successful in war. After returning from Egypt the time seemed right for him to seize power. He seized power and a few years after managed to sign peace agreement with their enemies. He later crowned himself emperor of France. This was a significant step forward for the people of France because they were finally at peace but also a step back because they now had a ruler once again.

    Following the defeat of Napoleon by the allied forces of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Great Britain, there was a meeting to decide what was going to happen. This meeting was called the Congress of Vienna and their goal was to make sure that France didn't do this again. In the end the overall theme of what happened during this meeting is that they strengthened the countries surrounding France so that they could not be aggressive in the future.
