    Louis XVI becomes King of France
    After the death of his grandfather, Louis XV, Louis XVI was next in line to become king and so he was, crowned at the age of 15, King of France. Louis XVI did not want to inherit the role of king, which can show why he was a weak leader. One of the ways that he showed his weakness as a king was when he helped america fight the British in the american revolution. Although he was King of France, he was not prepared to be one and it can be shown through his weak leadership

    On May 5th, 1789, King Louis XVI calls upon the estates general. the estates general had not reunited for a meeting in over 100 years last time being 1614. They reunited because there was a financial crisis in France and there was outrage by the people of France and the power of the king was getting weaker.     The national assembly was the name of the revolutionary group created by the third estate. The National Assembly also created the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, which gives right to all citizens of France. The National assembly helped to influence many of the actions of the French Revolution.

    On July 14, the Bastille, a french state prison was attacked by an angry mob that was very aggressive. they attacked this place because it was a symbol of France's dictatorial rule. This was one of the most important moments in the French revolution because it marked the beginning of it.

    The great fear was a riot by the peasants. there was much panic as these peasants believe that the king and the wealthier were going to overthrow the third estate, where the peasants were. in retaliation, the peasants attacked their lord and destroyed many files and documents. Soon after this the National Constituent Assembly created the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

    the Women's march on versailles consisted of 7,000 working women who raided the palace of versailles. When they got there, their main target was Marie Antoinette.They wanted to attack them because they were living in poverty while Marie Antoinette and king Louis XVI both continued to live like kings. These women were out to demand bread for all of the people of France ho need it. From here they made them both agree to the August Decrees and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen

    The National Convention was elected to provide a new constitution for France after they overthrew both king Louis and Marie Antoinette. One of their first acts was to abolish monarchy, which was how King Louis ruled France and they also created a republic. The National Convention was also the third time that France would try to get a national legislature.

    King:Louis was being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers so as a result, he was sentenced to death. it was on January 21,1793, when King Louis XVI met his fate with the guillotine and had his head severed in front of a large crowd.

    The reign of terror was a time period in France where if anybody was against the revolution you would be executed. It lasted from September 5,1793, to July 27, 1794. it is said that at least 300,000 people were arrested; 17,000 were executed, and that 10,000 died in prison or without trial.

    The French Directory was the French Revolutionary Government, which was set up by the constitution of the year lll. the directory was a group of 5 men who had higher power than others. These 5 men were chosen by the the Council of Five Hundred and the Council of Ancients, The directory would soon come under more pressure when Napoleon becomes emperor.

    The beginning of Napoleons reign marked an end for the french revolution. On November 9/10th of 1799, napoleon started to grow, and this is where he began to use his army to take power of the government. Other nations also begin to fear the strength of Napoleon and on May 18, 1804, Napoleon became Emperor of France. His rise to power was basically complete.

    Napoleon planned to invade Russia in 1812, where he would bring together the largest European army. Napoleons army to invade Russia was said to have at least 450,000 Grande Armée soldiers. when they arrived in Moscow, everything was on fire and deserted, they were ambushed by Russian soldiers and by the time they got out only about 10,000 were capable of fighting. This was one of the biggest mistakes that Napoleon made which eventually led to his downfall.

After being handed a defeat, this marked the end of the Napoleon Era. everything fell apart from here on for Napoleon, Napoleon surrendered to British protection and was soon put on the island of St. Helena's for six years where he died in MAy 1821
