    Meeting of the Estates Generals
    By 1789, The Estates Generals had not met in over a hundred and fifty years. The Estates were seperated in three: the First Estate, the clergy; the Second Estate, the nobility; and the Third Estate, everyone else. They met when the monarchy felt the need to see some subjects.

    Vote to establish the National Assembly
    Members from the Third Estate voted and formed a revolutionary assembly formed by representatives from the Third Estate called the National Constituent Assembly.

    A group of angry men decided to attack a prison known as the Bastille because it was a symbol of the monarchys dictation rule. Hours before they had stolen thousands of rifles.

    One of the most important tasks to complete in the French Revolution was to abolish feudalism. On August 4th, the National Assembly announced that they abolished feudalism entierely as well as the first and second estates.

    King Louis XVI was scared for him and his family, so they attempted escaping to Austria, where Marie Antoinette’s brother was the emperor, in hopes of being safe.

    The new constitution was written after the collapse of the absolute monarchy. It was created by the National Assembly with the purpose to limit monarchy. In this new constitution all power went to the Legislsative Assembly.

    The Legislative Assembly declares war on Austria and Prussia. As the war progressed France army became stronger and more successful.
  • Abolition of Monarchy

    The Legislative Assembly votes to completely abolish monarchy and establish the First Republic. This happened one year after Louis XVI approved a new constitution.
