    Causes of the French Revolution
    One cause of the French Revolution was that France was bankrupt froming fighting against England. The queen was also spending a ton of money. Another cause was bad harvests, which resulted in food shortages and higher prices. I used my notes and wikipeda.

    The king was forced to call a meeting of the French Parliment in 1789 because France was out of money.     King Lois the sixteenth had his army surround the city of Paris. The people were frightened and quickly formed local militias. They had plenty of guns but not enough gun powder. They had their supply of gun powder at the Bastille, so thousands of parisons attacked the fort and successfully retrieved the gun powder.This was the start of the French Revolution. The royal family was undr house arrest in their palace and the national assembly kept forcing the king to sign law after law that took more and more power away from him. So one night the king and his family got in their royal carriage and tried to head for Austria , using the darkness as their cover.     King Louis the sixteenth was convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers , and sentenced the death by the guillotine. He was executed on January 21st of 1793. I used www.history.com and my notes.

    When the war started, the French army was losing. The Austrian/ Prussian army had gotten within 30 miles of Paris and Great Britan had put a naval blockade on France's ports. The result was the national assembly started killing anyone who was against the revolution. 40,000 people including Marie Antoinette would be sent to the guillotine. The reign of terror would end with Maximillian Robespierre being sent to the guillotine.

    After the King was beheaded in 1793, Austria, Prussia, Spain, Portugal , Britain and the Dutch Republic declared war on France and invaded. If France lost this war, then the French Revolution would have been crushed and France's absolute monarchy would have been restroed. I used my notes.
