    The Old Regime cosisted of three estates. Two of them were more privliged and didn't pay a lot of taxes. The third estate paid a lot of taxes and were generally poorer. This is an important time period/ event because it was the start of it all.

    The Creation of The National Assembly
    The National Assembly was the name for the third estate delagates. They were to pass laws and make decisions for the French people. They wanted to end the absolute monarchy. This event is important because the third estate was starting to have some power and come together.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The Tennis Court Oath was when the National Assembly was locked out of their meeting room. After they discovered this, they went and broke down a door to an indoor tennis court. They pladged not to leave until a new constitution was written. This event is important becuase it shows that the third estate was begining to get upset and was one of the first steps to a revolution.

  • The attack on Bastille

    The attack on Bastille
    When rumors of Louis dissmissing the National Assembly started to arise, people got afraid. They took their weapons and marched to Bastille. They killed the gaurds and seized control of the building, and then paraded around the streets with their heads. This event is important because it was a very large part in the start of the revolution. It is even a holiday today.

  • The creation of the Legislative Assembly

    The creation of the Legislative Assembly
    This Assembly came from the new consitution. They had the ability to create laws and call for a war. This stripped the king of much of his authority, but he was still head. This event is important to the revolution because the new government was begining to be formed through this new constituion, and less power to the king.

  • The Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror
    This was the time period where the country of France was being ruled by Robespierre as basically a dictator. Many people were being executed by the guillotine, a form of torture. Many people were executed for the strangest of reasons. About 40,000 people were executed during the Reign of Terror. This is an important event for the revolution because the Revolution was shifting during this point. Many people got very afraid.

    The start of Napolean Bonaparte
    Napolean was a very successful military leader. He led and won many wars for the French people. He started training at the age of nine. Napolean was a very important person to the Revolution. He claimed many victories for France's revolution.

    The Continental System
    This forced all ports closed to prevent trade and communication between the European nations and France. This was supposed to make the country more self-sufficient. It was not quite tight enough though, because Britain forced their way through. This event is important to the revolution because it was a very costly mistake for France and was a large setback.

  • Napolean's Downfall

    Napolean's Downfall
    Napolean started to grow weak. He was making one mistake after another until finally, he gave up to terms of surrender. He still hadn't wanted to give up, but he was forced to. This event is important becuause Napolean had been such a huge part of the revolution and he had finally been beaten down.

  • The Holy Alliance

    The Holy Alliance
    This was basically the end of the French Revolution. The rulers of Europe promised to try to prevent another revolution. They were finally tired of fighting and nations became once again independent. This event is important to the revolution, because it was the end of it. Athough other countries and nations around the world started to take ideas from the French Revolution for themselves.
