No more Money
King Louis XVI practically had no more money left. His plan was to force nobles to pay taxes. The Second Estate made it mandatory that Louis made a meeting of the Estates-General. Also, a representative of the three estates to approve of this new tax. The first meeting, the first in 175 years was held at the Versailles. -
The Change
The Third Estate voted in the establishment of National Assembly, to declare the beginning of representative government and the end to absolute monarchy. This was the first discussion act of revolution. -
Bastille Day
A mob looking for any gunpowder and arms inspected a prison in Paris, Bastille. This huge crowd of people hacked the prison commander and killed various of the guards. They finish having dead man heads on pikes. The fall of Bastille because another important symbol for the French people. -
The Noblemen
That night the noblemen made speeches declaring their love for liberty and equality. They also joined the other members of the National Asssembly. Putting aside the feudal right of the First and Second Estates. By the morning, the Old Regime was dead. -
The Tax on Bread
Thousand of Persian Woman marched on te Versailles with knives axes and many more weapons. They were protesting over the increase in the price of bread. First they when t the National Assembly, then they turned to the king and queen. -
The New Constitution
After a long time, the National Assembly completed the new constitution, in which Louis approved. The constitution stated a limited costitutional monarchy. Also created the Legislative Assembly. This group has the power to approve or reject resolutions of war. -
War Begins
Neighboring countries where curious of what was going on in france and prepare themselves if anyone revolt against them. Some countries like Austria and Prussia, wanted so bad for Louis to restore his position as king and go back to absolute monarchy. The year when war was declared. -
France a Republic
The new government body, The National Convention took office. As fast as possible they got rid of the monarchy and made France a republic. Adult male were allowed to vote and hold office. Still after everything that happened women could not vote.
