Today, we began our journey in Adelaide. There are nine men in our group, including my old friend John Baxter.
-
We travelled for days on flat, arid ground. We can’t find any food for the horses or any fresh water to drink. I sent four men back to Adelaide because the journey is too difficult for nine people.
-
We’re at the Great Australian Bight. Some kind Aboriginals helped us to find drinking water near the beach.

It’s winter and the weather is cold. During the night, two of the men killed Baxter. Then they took our food and ran away. Only one man – Wylie – stayed with me. He’s a good man. I hope we survive

Today, after a journey of 1,300 kilometres, we arrived in Albany. During our long expedition, we walked over hills and through valleys. We were often hungry and thirsty, but we survived.
