    Louis calls the Estates-General
    King Louis called the Estates-General to propose some solutions to France's financial issues. The meeting included all three estates. Maximilian Robespierre became the "voice" of the third estate during this meeting. This caused the third estate to get more of a voice and more of an influence, which was very important during this time.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    When the Third Estate was locked out of the meeting of the Estates-General, they gathered at a tennis court and swore to gather until they achieved in making a new constitution and until the National Assembly acknowledged them. At this meeting, the Third Estate also began calling itself the National Assembly or National Board.
  • Storming of Bastille

    Storming of Bastille
    The Storming of Bastille started when King Louis decided to fire his financial officer named Jacques Necker who was well liked by the people. The French people stormed the midieval fortress named Bastille. This was a sign/symbol of the authority in France at this time. This event officially started/sparked the revolution and the flag/banner that they used in battle is now the current flag of France.

    Declaration of Rights of Man
    This document considered all men truly equal. The French people in the National Assembly organized it. Maximilian Robespierre also suggested that it should include the freedom of the press, which then influenced a lot of people and a lot more newspapers started. Example: Jean-Paul Marat's newspaper.
  • March to Versailles

    March to Versailles
    Women protested for the lack of flour and the high price of bread in Paris. These women were described as very muscular and strong and were able to take a ton of weapons from the city armory and then go to Versailles and completely besieged it. This event forced Marie and Louis to move to Paris. This was significant because it was one of the first events to take place during the French Revolution. The king was also forced to sign the Declaration of the Rights of Man.

  • Louis's Trial

    Louis's Trial
    Maximilian Robespierre put Louis on trial. After he was put on trial, convicted of treason to the country, and sentenced to death, the people of France were momentarily happy. This happiness ended quickly when Charlotte Corday assassinated Jean-Paul Marat. She killed him because she was trying to restore peace and stop him from killing so many people. The people grieved heavily over this and described Marat’s angry and revolutionary voice as "silenced"
  • The Reign Terror

    The Reign Terror
    An EXTREMELY violent period of time in France where almost anything could get a citizen killed. If a person referred to another person as Madame instead of citizen, that person was killed almost immediately. Maximilian Robespierre was responsible for all of these deaths by putting about 40,000 people to the guillotine.
  • Maximilian Robespierre Death

    Maximilian Robespierre Death
    Maximilian Robespierre was arrested and attempted suicide to save himself from the shame of the "Royal Razor", but his shot attempt was unsuccessful and only shattered his jaw making him unable to speak. The next day, Robespierre was taken to the guillotine. His Reign of Terror also died with him and France entered a period of uncertainty.
