    On January 22nd, 1905 around 200,000 families went to the Czars Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. These families petitioned for better working conditions, more personal freedom, and a elected national legislature. Nicholas ll's generals ordered his soldiers to open fire on the crowd, killing hundreds of people and wounding more than a thousand. This played a role in the Russian Revolution becuase citizens were being killed trying to get more freedoms and rights.
