    The photo was chosen because it displays the joy of many Russian civilians when the October Manifesto was released, promising a step into a more democratic future. While not all Russians remained satisfied as time went on, some became known as Octoberists who were satisfied. These Octoberists are portrayed by the image.

    The picture shows how old fashioned the Russian army was due to its use of marching soldiers, old rifles, and cavalry. Therefore it shows how it was no match for the modernized enemy armies. But, the soldiers march with pride, showing how in the beginning, there was abundant Russian patriotism.

    The Tsar was not skilled in tactics and strategy, but this photo taken of him shows him planning. Therefore, this image was taken to convince the Russian civilians that he was a good leader to calm the revolutionaries. However, the photo has irony, because the Tsar's incompetence fueled the revolutionaries instead.
