    Reign of Czar Alexander III (1881-1894)

    -During his reign he had a very strong hatred of Jewish people
    -Czar Alexander was an absolute monarch he did want anyone to rule beside him
    -The absolute monarchy that Czar Alexander set up made the people dislike the Czar
    -Wanted the Nobility to be strong and neglected the lower and middle classes
    *Neglected and mistreated lower classes which put a bad image of the Czar in people's minds which led to the downfall of the Czars in the future as well.

    Reign of Czar Nicholas II (1894-1917)

    -Russian people unhappy because of absolute monarchy
    -No one could participate in the government
    -Workers went on strike and while marching in the streets of Russia they were shot by Russian soldiers
    -Czar Nicholas created a duma that didn't give any power to the lower classes
    -He gave more attention to the nobles and disregard the lower classes
    *After Czar Nicholas stepped down from ruling, the whole of Russia broke out into a revolution

    Russo Japanese War (1904-1905)

    -A war over Russia over territory in china
    -Japan had better naval and ground troops so it gave them a huge advantage over Russia
    -Russia had to travel a very far distance to resupply which was a disadvantage to them
    -Poor politics and decision making by the government resulted in a strike on the Russian political system
    *This led to the October strike where they marched through the streets of Russia after the Russian political system was humiliated after the Russo-Japanese war.
  • Bloody Sunday (January 22, 1905)

    -200,000 Russian people marched through the streets of Russia in a strike of abnormal pay and living conditions
    -The Czar and his family were not at the palace during the protest
    -They shot at the crowd that was charging the palace and many were killed even though the Czar and his family were not there
    -Hundreds killed and thousands injured during the march on the place
    *Bloody Sunday was one of the lead causes of the Russian revolution and which also led to the establishment of a duma
  • Establishment of the Duma (October 6, 1905)

    -In October a strike had swept the country forcing Nicholas ll to change Russia from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy.
    -They establish a duma to limit the absolute monarchy power.
    -The duma didn't give much power to the lower classes
    -Bloody Sunday was another reason for the establishment of the duma, it was another strike
    *The duma never gave any real power to the people and was only made to quiet the people and make them happy.

    Russia’s Participation in WWI (1914-1918)

    -Near the end of the war Russia pulled out of the war because they were so underdeveloped and their people were suffering or starvation and disease
    -Most of their supplies were destroyed and their war efforts didn't amount to much
    - Czar Nicholas went to the war fronts to help the efforts to win the war but it ruined Russia's economy and led to his downfall
    *Most of Russia's war efforts were not significant because they there were less industrialized than the other countries fighting

    -Gregori Rasputin was a mystic that served the royal family because he could heal the hare to the throne Alexie, the Czars son
    -While Czar Nicholas was off at the western front Alexandria, Czar Nicholas's wife was left alone at the home front with Rasputin
    -Many say that Rasputin had a heavy influence on the Czars wife and her decisions in the government
    -Nobels were outraged and want to get rid of Rasputin
    *They assassinated him, first they poisoned him, then shot, then threw him in a river

    -Introduced communism
    -Led the Russian Revolution
    -He led a dictatorship and control everything in the soviet union
    -he censored the press and what people could say
    *Many Russian people were in favor of the way they were going to be ruled and they fought for the revolution, some were not happy with the way Lenin ruled but their effort were not a success
  • Abdication of Czar Nicholas II (March 8, 1917)

    -Almost the whole of Russia dislike the Czar and wanted a different way of rulership
    -The raised interest in communism helped with removing the Czar from the throne
    *The Russian people hated the Czar and they got what they wanted a different way of life

    -There was two sides of the civil war the Red Army and the White Army, The Red were the soviets and the White were the people who wanted to remove communism from Russia
    -The White Army was not successful full
  • Establishment of USSR (December 30, 1922)

    -Russia became the USSR or the Soviet Union in 1922
    -Russia Blamed Czar Nicholas for the problems that they had
    -They were happy with the idea of communism
    -Vladimir Lenin became ruler after overthrowing the government and other countries fighting against communism
    *They used force and violence to get the way they wanted to so they could gain control over Russia

    -After Lenin dies Stalin and Trotsky competed to rule Russia
    -Stalin won over Trotsky
    -Stalin Controlled the soviet union
    *Stalin ruled as a dictator

    -Died of a blood vessel disease that slipped him into a coma
    *Stalin later elected as ruler of soviet union
  • Leon Trotsky’s exile (1929)

    -He wanted to start an armed revolution and was later exiled to Serbia
    -He wanted comunism to spread throughout the world and stalin wanted it to only spread throughout Russia
