It started with Bloody Sunday. Russians lost faith and respect for the tsar when Nicholas II sent out soldiers to take care of these protestors. People started strikes, peasant uprisings, mutinies, and terrorist attacks. The tsar was in a bad position and was inquired to make changes, including the failed creation of the Duma.

Duma was created for basic civil liberties. The problem with Duma is that it was in the hands of the tsar who people were angry with.

Russia entered world war I but it created many problems for Russia. They lacked ammunition and guns it also added stress to the goverment and economy. Nicholas leads the troops to the front lines and hangs out in cities nearby while this is going on.

Stared when 90,000 textile workers went on strike in Russia protesting the shortage of fuel and bread. Many people joined and by the end of the week 400 000 people had joined the cause. They wanted down with tsar and down with the war.The Tsar had banned protesting so he sent out the military to shoot the protesters. Instead the army shot their officers and joined the cause. The tsar had no army.

The Bolsheviks (Red Army), fought against the White Army, which consisted of Kerensky and everybody else. The Red Army revolted after Kerensky stopped the Bolshevik headquarters and arrested Bolshevik leaders.

When Lenin takes power he promised people three major things that they all wanted. Peace meaning end to war, Land meaning land to peasants, and bread meaning end to food shortages.

When Russia pulled out of the war, they signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. It gave Germany parts of Poland, Ukraine, Finland, and the Baltic States.

Joseph Stalin was Russia's first dictator. He put Russia into a totalitarian state. He forced obedience of the people and crushed oppression. With Stalin, Russia became a different environment to live in.
