    Marxsts revolutionaries disagree over revolutionary tactics. The more radical Bolsheviks are ready to risk everything. The charismatic Vladimir Lenin becomes the leader.

    Japaneese Attack Russians
    During what is now called the Russo-Japanese War, Russia and Japan were fighting over the two contries Korea and Manchuria. Russia and Japan singed many agreements about the territories but Russiaeventually disobyed the agreements. Japan retaliated by attacking the Russians at Port Arthur, Manchuria. Many Russians were killed and it left more unrest amidst the war.

    Workers Demand Better Conditions
    200,000 Workers and their families approach the Czar's Winer Palace in Saint Petersburg. They marched to the front gates and demanded better working conditions, more personal freedom, and an elected national legislature. Nicholas II's Generals are ordered to fire into the crowd leaving more than 1,000 wounded and 100's killed. This Event was quickly named Bloody Sunday.

    Duma Meets For First Time
    Becuase of the killing from Bloody Sunday most of the country was in an outrage and took to the streets to protest. Nicholas II agreed to some of the peoples terms to quite them down. Terms like creating an elected legislature called the Duma. The Duma first met May 1906, the ideas from the members of the Duma consisted of ideas for Russia to become a Constitutional Monarchy like Britian already had. The ideas stayed ideas and the Duma had been dissolved after only 10 weeks.

    Nicholas II made the decision to drag Russia into WWI. Russia was very unprepared. Russia's military and economy could not handle the costs of the war. Defeat followed defeat as Russia fell further into dismay. German machine guns mowed down the Russian troops without so much asa second glance. Russia's invovlment in the war revealed the weakness of czarist rule and military leadership.

    Armed factory workers stormed the Winter Palace in Petrograd. They called themselves the Bolshevik Red Gaurds. The Red Gaurds took over government offices and arrested the leaders of the provisional government

    Russia and Germany signed the treatie of Brest- Litosk. Russia surrendered a large part of territory to Germany and its allies. This triggered anger among Russians.
