    The Romans kicked out the Etruscans rulers and established a republic. They felt that having a republic would prevent too much power from going to just any one individual. There were two consuls, Plebians, Senators, and Patricians.

    Roman power expanded and they had conquered the entire Peninsula. Their army was made up of citizen soldiers and 5,000 men legions

    The start of the three Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. First Punic War, Rome won Corscia and Sardinia. They Knew they would not be able to defeat Carthage navy so they spent 20 years rebuilding it after discovering the navy has been abandoned.

    Broke out because of Spain. Hamilcar Barca made new and improved settlements in Spain. Made his son swear a blood oath after his death in 229. Hannibal won battles but never captured Rome for 15 years. In 203, when Rome forced him out to leave and defend Carthage, he retreated and defended North Africa

    Scipio crushed Hannibal and Carthage surrendered. Rome called for 6 new legions. Rome Fought for world domination as Macedonia, Greece, and parts of Asia Minor became the provinces of Rome

    In 133. BC, Tiberius called asked the state to distribute land to the poor. Gauis sought public funds to exchange grain for the poor. The Senators saw the brothers as a threat

    Spent 12 years away from Rome and rebuilt the Pantheon... adopted a 51-year-old man Antonius Pius as his son and died in 138 A.D Antonius rebuilt the Colosseum and celebrated the 900th anniversary of Rome. Sad that he died from eating cheese in 161 A.D

    Long Sad Decline

    Peace Fell in Rome after the death of Marcus Aurchus in 180 A.D. Rome turned into political instability and violence. Generals and politicians craved and seized power but each was overthrown or assassinated. There were roughly 26 different corrupt emperors that ruled in such a corrupt government. High taxes, migrating farmers, and mercenaries were not a pretty look on Romes end

    Diocletian was determined to restore the order of the fallen empire. Maximian began to rule the western provinces while Diocletian stayed in the wealthier eastern provinces. within 200 years, the western empire would collapse but the eastern would remain strong until the 1450s
