    Thirty Year’s War

    The Thirty Year’s War was a war with many causes and participants. Causes include: Defenestration of Prague and Bohemian Revolt. The war was mostly about religion but politics got thrown in as well. The Peace of Westphalia was a series of treaties signed to end the war. As a result of the war, power was balanced as well as the influence of religion on political affairs.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights

    Kings James II was a selfish ruler and was dethroned because of it. His Daughter Mary and her husband took the throne and allowed parliament to have more power. The Bill of Rights allows more freedom for the people in parliament. This bill's impact has influenced government in other countries.

    War of the Austrian Succession

    The death of Emperor Charles VI caused a breakout of several wars. His daughter was supposed to be his successor but many disagreed and vowed to take over their land. A treaty ended the conflicts.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was a tax placed on paper only for the colonists in America. The British Empire was in debt from war so they planned to use the colonies to pay it off. The colonists were obviously upset by this and revolted. The law was repealed in 1766 but was replaced with another to reassert Parliament's authority.

    American Revolution

    The American Revolution was caused by the British Crown trying to gain control over the colonies. The colonists were very unhappy with the laws and taxes imposed on them. During the revolution, France joined to help fight the British. From this, the Declaration of Independence was born. This event is probably the most important in American history as it marks the beginning of the country.

    Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution with the British Empire finally recognizing America as independent. Benjamin Franklin and John Adams helped negotiate the treaty. This may have formally separated America from Brittan but peace between the two wouldn't come for a long time.

    France was bankrupt from its involvement in the American Revolution and the irresponsible spending of King Louis XVI. Despite the many years people suffered from poor harvest and numerous protests, nothing was done by officials to solve the issue. The French people had had enough and began a revolution of their own.

    Representatives of lower class citizens gathered secretly instead of disbanding as per the king's order. They made a vow to stay together until France had a written constitution. This is the beginning o fthe French Revolution.

    The Storming of the Bastile was one of the opening events of the French Revolution. Bastile was a state prison and when it was raided, it was seen as a stand against the monarchy's abuse of their power.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror

    Due to the lack of a competent king and high ranking officials, the French people were suffering. Poor harvest and money circulation, and high bread prices gave citizens all the more reason to revolt. Many recall the famous night when the people stormed the palace and executed King Louis and his wife Marie Antoinette.
