  • The Battle of Alamo

    The Mexican Army led by Santa Anna attacks Alamo, outnumbered and killed almost everyone inside the fort including the Texan militia who had tried to fight back.

    President Richard Ellis selected a committee of experts to draft a Declaration of Independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Texas declares independence from Mexico. The official event was led by the Delegates representing the People of Texas in General Convention that took place at the Town of Washington
  • The Goliad Massacre

    Between 425-445, Texan army prisoners of war were killed under the orders of Mexican President Santa Anna at the town of Goliad. Texan army commander Colonel James Fannin was among those brutally killed
  • The Battle of San Jacinto

    Sam Houston led the Texan Army to attack a Santa Anna led Army at San Jacinto. The Mexican army was defeated and Santa Anna was captured and taken hostage. He ordered his troops to retreat.

    Sam Houston is declared president of the republic of Texas
  • Recognition of the republic of Texas

    The U.S senate officially recognized Texas as an independent republic. President Andrew Jackson immediately nominated Alcée La Branche as U.S Minister to Texas
  • Mexico declines to recognize Texas's Independence

    Santa Anna refuses to recognize the legitimacy of Texas independence. He claimed that all treaties signed at San Jacinto were illegitimate and were done under duress. This issue halted any U.S effort to annex Texas

  • France Recognizes Texas

    The France government recognized Texas's independence. France was the first European Nation to do so.

    Sam Houston was elected again as President of the Texas republic. This was his second time as president. He was President from 1836 to 1838

    An attempt to move Government documents from Austin to Houston was met by resistance from the people of Austin city leading to shootings.

    The United States President John Tyler signs a bill that authorizes annexation of Texas

    Texas is annexed by the United States of America becoming the 28th state.
