In the 1300s, a powerful leader called Mansa Musa takes over Mali. Mansa Musa made many influences to Mali, such as, islam spreading over the large part of West Africa. Mansa Musa ruled for about 25 years.

In 1320, an explorer called Ibn Battutah traveled Africa, India, China, and Spain. The Muslims geographers made the map more accurate to help travelers. The geographers developed better ways of calculating distances.
