Preparing for an Exam in English 1100

  • Attending Class

In order to be succesful on all exams in any class, attendance is going to be an important part of that. For English 1100 you are going to need to attend and do all assigned readings and writings. This will prepare you for exams, or in this case, writing assignments that will be due in place of exams
  • Week Prior to Exam

At this point, your instructor is going to be preparing you for the first writing prompt or exam in this class. By this point you should have detailed notes that will be explaining all concepts covered in this course. With this week before, gather and collect all things related to the topics covered and prepare to consolidate for studying purposes.
  • Begin Studying

By this date, with consistent studying, you will be adequetly prepared for the exam. Begin with small pieces of information by this time so you do not end up piling up volumous amounts of information to cram only a day before. Begin re-reading all assigned readings and be actively reading. What I mean by this is take notes while reading that way when studying you have less amounts of things to read but still have full grasp of the concept.
  • 2 Days Till Exam

At this juncture, you should have read and covered all assignments prior to the exam. With all of this information that you have gathered from actively reading, you will be able to study all of this in more detail. Begin the repeatition part of studying by reading everything that you have compiled from days prior.
  • Night Before Exam

This is the point where the majority of students begin to become nervous and anxious about the upcoming event. Luckily for you, you have given yourself ample amounts of time to study and be familiar with the topics that will be covered. Despite popular usage, staying up until 4 in the morning will not be as advantageous as you think. By doing so, you will be exhausted before the exam and your brain is less likely to function at its capacity. Sleep plenty the night before, and be prepared.
  • Exam Day

Be calm, take all the amount of time you are given, and re read everything you have done before handing something in. By re-reading you are giving yourself a more objective view of what you have writen. More importantly, re read the instructions before reading again, sometimes you will overlook very important topics that need to be covered in your answer and this will give you a second chance to incorporate what you missed in your prompt.
  • Post Exam

Go home, shout at the top of your lungs like you have just conquered the Roman Empire, and go have fun with your friends. College isn't all about drowning in anxiety after all. Unless of course you have another exam tomorrow...in which case...yeah...this sucks.
