  • Louis XVI comes to Power

    After the death of his grandfather Louis XV, Louis XVI came to power in August.

  • Summoning the Estates - General

    Louis XVI summons the Third estate to fix the major financial problems of France. This lessens the King's Power and therefore sets the stage for the Revolution.
  • Formation of the National Assembly

    The national assembly is the first legislative government for France. It was convened at versailles and the tenis court oath was formed this assembly ended on July 9 of the same year.
  • National Gaurd formed

    The French National Gaurd is formed, headed by Marquis de Laffayette. 50,000 armed citizens. This National Gaurd would stop the Parisian Revolts and riots with firepower they were not well liked..
  • Attack on the Bastille

    Citizens of Paris storm the Bastille (a prison for political prisoners) to gain access to arms and gunpowder.

    This was the official start of the Revolution. The Peasants rioted about the availibility of food and the price of food. They believed that louis was trying to starve them out.
  • End of Feudalism!

    National Assembly declares an abolition of Feudalism. This allowed all revenue to go to the state and for all of the noble to loose their power over the people. Hhowever they did not loose their seats in politics.
  • Assignats

    Assignats were paper money issued by the National Assembly in France from 1789 to 1796, during the French Revolution. The assignats were issued after the confiscation of church properties in 1790 because the government was bankrupt.
  • Women's march on versailles

    Thousands of women marched on versailles to reclaim grains that they thought Marie Antoinette had stolen and was hiding at Versailles. This Showed the seriousness of the issues in France
  • New constitution accepted by louis XVI

    The royal family fled to verrens in austria but they were caught before they could cross the border. This led to major distrust in the monarchy. louis was tried for treason and was found guilty.

    This effectivly declared war on France by Austria and Prussia. It was meant for France to lose but they won and the Feeling of nationalism spurred the Revolution Further.

  • Brunswick Manifesto

    The kingdoms of Austria and Prussia Make a declaration of protection for the monarchy of France saying that, if the revolutionaries harm the king or Queen then they would use their militaries to reinstate a monarchy.

    England and other European countries form the first of many coalitions against the french. These fought wars that tore up the European economys and the land, driving france deeper and deeper into debt
