    Although they were initially called the "Pittsburgh Allegheneys," the team was a founding member of the American Association, a short lived league, and officially became the Pirates in the 1891 season.

    After over a decade, The Penguins finally got another championship victory. In the seventh game, they beat out the Detroit Red Wings

    After 20 losing seasons, the Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers to secure their 81st win. They made it as far the National League Division Series, where they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals in 5 games.
