Pip's Timeline Throughout his Great Expectations

  • Pip Being From a Small Place

    Pip lived with his sister Mrs. Joe and Her husband which he called Joe. They both raised him since both of his parents had died. Pip having to be "brought up" by Mrs. Joe, who was usually very mean to him, affected him because he was growing to be a very fearful child which made him insecure around other people.
  • Pip Encounters His Convict

    Pip comes to encounter a convict while he was at the graveyard visiting his parents. At this time Pip was still very young and as he was so afraid, he did as the convict told him to which was to get him food and a file. This affected him because later in the story the convict ends up being the reason for his success in becoming a gentleman.
  • Pip Meets Estella and Miss Havisham

    Pip goes to Satis House and while he is there he meets Estella. He admires her from the first time even though she iery cold to him. He begins to fall in love her and throughout the story he continuosly thinks about her. Miss Havisham meant for Estella to break his heart, but in the end Pip ends up forgiving her because he is still of a kind heart.
  • Pip Learns He Will Become A Gentlemen

    Mr. Jaggers tells Pip that he now has a great amount of fortune and Pip leaves to London to become a gentleman. From this point Pip begins to lose his personal values and without realizing begins to forget where he came from.
  • Mrs. Joe Dies

    When Pip's sister dies, Pip goes to visit and he realizes that even though she had treated him horribly when he was younger, he still loved her and was going to miss her.
  • Joe Visits Pip In London

    When Joe comes to visit Pip in London, Pip feels embarassed to have him there. Pip also feels that the new people he has met will judge him because of Joe. After he realizes that he had been thinking wrong, it is too late because Joe has gone back and Pip feel ashamed of himself for having treated Joe that way.
  • Pip Realizes Who His Benefactor Is

    PIp realizes that his benefactor is Magwitch, his childhood convict, and he is ashamed and afraid of the person who has been responsible for his success. After knowing this, Pip decides he has to help Magwitch escape as a thank you, but he becomes emotionally attached to Magwitch and realizes that he isn't such a bad person after all.
