    Dechristianization

    The campaign called dechristianization had a goal of destructng the Catholic religion and Catholic religious practices. The effect that dechristianization had on france was it split the nation on two different sides of the issues.
  • Brunswick Manifesto

    Started the crash of the monarchy, meant to protect King Louis XVI and the royal family. The declaration states that the French were betrayed by the Allies and that the King deserved his authority back.
  • Storming of the Tuileries

    A mob invades the Palace searching for the King Louis XVI, Louis escaped to the Legislative Assembly building but mob still attacked everyone else.

    Waves of killings in Paris, mobs broke into the prisons and killed the prisoners.

    French National Convention

    This was the fourth government and the first legislative body of the French Revolution. Its purpose was to create a republican constitution after the overthrow of the monarchy. It drafted two, one of which created an executive committee, the French Directory, and required the election of 2/3rds of its new members of the legislative asembly.
  • The execution of Louis XVI

    The execution of Louis XVI
    After the fall of the monarchy, Louis XVI was arrested and tried for treason before the National Convention. He was sentenced to death by the guilloine at the Place de la Revolution in Paris. This was a major event of the French Revolution, and his execution made him the first victim of the Reign of Terror.

    • French monarchy government removed so the Committee of General Defense claimed authority when France delcared war on Britain
    • Committee of General Defense wanted a smaller group to carry out decisions (Committee of Public Safety)

    Constitution of 1793
    Drafted by the Committee of Public Safety, this Constitution proclaimed the superiority of popular sovereignty over national soveregnty, it also provited the right of association, the right to work and public assistance, and the right to a public education. It also gave the public the right of rebellion, and it abolished slavery in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen

    • radical section of the French Revolution
    • government was involved in civil and international wars at the time and wanted to punish enemies of the revolution by executing them
    • ended when Robespierre along with his supporters (Jacobins) was arrested and killed
    • option of acquittal or death
    • caused people of other countries to stop supporting the French Revolution resulting from the Reign of Terror's great amount of bloodshed
  • End of the Reign and Terror and Thermidorian reaction

    End of the Reign and Terror and Thermidorian reaction
    Maximilien Robespierre along with other fellow Jacobins was executed on July 28, 1794. This execution of 17,000 brought an end to the radical phase of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. The Thermidorian reaction is the name of the event when the National Convention overthrew Robespierre snd the Reign of Terror.
