Our Town - Alaina

  • Emily's Twelfth Birthday

    In Act Three, Emily goes back in time to relive one day in her life. During this dream she re-sees her family, how the town used to look, and many people that are dead now in the play but still alive back then. During this dream, we also are given the theme of this play; to appreciate life as we have it. She realizes how little she appreciated life back when she was alive, even on the littlest things.

  • Act One

    In act one, we start on this day to kick off the play. We meet everyone in the play, for the most part, and see how the main characters meet/ kick off their relationship for the first time. On this day, we see George ask Emily for "homework help" and Emily be glad to help. Maybe it's because of her crush on George, but we can gather that George's first intention is to cheat and get the homework answers.
  • Polish Twins Born

    In act one, we learn the Doc Gibbs delivered twins early in the morning on May 7th 1901.
  • Engagement?

    In act two, we see George basically engage Emily. At first, Emily seems to want to seal off her friendship with George when she tells George she thinks he's been sort-of off lately. As they talk, they walk into a dinner from their walk from school and George orders them both milkshake to help her calm down. After that, their conversation goes up from there, and they talk about their future and dreams together.
  • Commencement

    In act two, we learn that that the day before George and Emily's wedding is the High School Commencement; graduation.
  • George and Emily's Wedding

    In act two, we see George up and ready to go early in the morning. He's ecstatic to just get married, he can't wait to see Emily. Soon after getting ready, he goes over to Emily's house and learns that Emily is sleeping in and gets an awkward talk from his future father-in-law. Then right before the wedding, Emily freaks out and doesn't want to get married until her father makes her see George. Soon she calms down and they get married.
  • Emily's Funeral

    In act three, we find out Emily has recently passed away. We see Emily's funeral, people who have passed since the last act, and we see Emily go back in time. When Emily goes back in time, we see her understand how much underappreciated life is as it is. We see then the full meaning/theme of the play.
  • Doc Gibbs

    In act one, we learn that Doc Gibbs dies in 1930 with a hospital named after him.
