New Hires - What to Expect

  • First Day

    Welcome! Today is your first day with AkzoNobel and Dulux Paints. There is plenty to learn at first, but let's get you started with a tour of the store and an introduction to your co-workers. It is important to work with your team and help each other to create a safe, positive working environment where each individual is encouraged to grow and develop.
  • First Week

    By the end of Week One, you should be able to:
     Correctly use PPE at all times
     Understand colour coding and read a formula from the Spectrophotometer
     Answer the telephone using proper etiquette
     Ring through a basic sale at the Cash register
     Understand the difference between the various lines of paint that we carry
     Complete Week One in your Training Manual and discuss your progress with your manager
  • Second Week

    By the end of Week Two, you should be able to:
     Tint colours with accuracy
     Ring through a variety of items at the Register, and complete a refund
     Begin to identify the correct product needed for a project
     Begin to use the steps of the selling process to close a sale
     Complete Week Two in your Training Manual and discuss your progress with your manager
  • Third Week

    By the end of Week Three, you should be able to:
     Tint and match colours with accuracy
    Use cash register for ROA's, journal history and customer price look-up
     Identify the correct product needed for a project with little guidance
     Use the steps of the selling process to close a sale
     Complete Week Two in your Training Manual and discuss your progress with your manager
  • Fourth Week

    By the end of Week Four, you should be able to:
     Identify a brand of paint by their coding
     Up-sell applicators and tools to paint customers
     Have a general understanding of the benefits of each paint type
     Open and Close a store
     Complete Week Four in your Training Manual and discuss your progress with your manager
  • Second Month

    By the end of your Second Month, you should be able to:
     Receive and process shipping orders
     Often close sales without guidance
     Have a good understanding of the different types of paint and there uses
     Provide customers with great customer service
  • Third Month

    By the end of your third month, you should be able to:
     Frequently close sales
     Actively participate in staff meetings and action planning sessions
     Have a clear understanding of the benefits of each paint type
     Tint and match colours and correct mistints
     Have a meeting with your manager to discuss your progress
  • Fourth Month

    By the end of your fourth month, you should be able to:
     Discuss objectives for your Performance and Development Dialog
     Show initiative in creating new, more effective ways to complete store processes
     Overcome difficult objections from customers and manage complaints
     Match colours both with and without the use of the computer
  • Fifth Month

    By the end of your fifth month, you should be able to:  Attend classroom sessions for further development of your skills
     Complete First Aid Training
     Show initiative and self-assess your skills to determine areas of improvement or education
     Confidently recommend the correct product for each customer’s project
     Comfortably discuss colour with customers and provide advice when necessary
  • Sixth Month

    By the end of your sixth month, you should be able to:
     Participate in an inventory check (Semi-annually in April and October)
     Participate in corporate initiatives, such as Viewpoint
     Set and achieve P&DD objectives
     Complete Forklift Training
  • First Year

    By the end of your first year, you should feel comfortable with all of our products and be able to sell each product effectively, using the Features and Benefits of the product to match to your customer’s needs.
