    Mom's New Job
My mother was laid off in the summer of 1992 from her job working for Westinghouse. She decided to go back to school to get a second masters degree in Internet Technology. She was hired by a company called BYK Gardner USA as their lead IT in the fall of 1994. Technology exploded in our house after that! (Image taken from www.byk.com)

Brand New Computer Lab at School
The fall of my fourth grade year was a very exciting one for the students of Hillcrest Elementary. Our computer lab had been completely updated over the summer and now boasted 25 state of the art computers. Each of those computers came with a download of (drumroll, please)...Oregon Trail! We went to the lab as a class once a week and spent our time playing. I realize now, this wasn't great teaching, but 9 year old me loved it and yearned for a computer of my own. Our First Computer
Not too long (though it seemed like ages) after my mother began her job at BYK, a brand new computer entered our home. It was a family Christmas present and took up a central location in our house. My mother spent more time on it than anyone else in the house but I was fascinated and would spend my time watching her work and looking forward to when I could sneak in and play a game of solitaire or two. My First Computer Game!
My aunt bought me the educational computer game, The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis, as a birthday present in 1997. By this time, we'd had two computer updates (courtesy of Mom's work) and it seemed as though technology was moving faster than we could feasibly buy it. I spent hours on the family computer playing this game; little did I know, it was just the beginning. (Image taken from www.amazon.com)
  • AOL

    AOL
My mother and father had America Online Accounts for several years before I was allowed to have my own account. My mother told me that I would be allowed to have a screen name when I turned 13. I bothered her enough that, at 12 and 10 months, she finally let me online. My screen name was midniteangel912 and I was hooked! So much so, that I eventually had to have time limits put on me because otherwise, I never would have gotten offline. What a time to be alive! (Image taken from Wikipedia.)

    Editor-in-Chief
When I was a junior in high school, I was on the school paper and our computer lab was gifted 40 brand new iMAC G3 (in vivid Bondi Blue). This was revolutionary to us because it forced us to use a new program for the design of the paper. Some members of the paper weren't happy but I was fascinated and made it my goal to learn the program better than anyone else. My hard work paid off; I was made editor my senior year! One of my Own!
My parents bought me my very own computer (a Compaq Presario) as a high school graduation present in the summer of 2004. I took it with me to college at Towson University and - hard to believe, I know - I still own the computer to this day...though my laptop gets used a lot more often than it does. Technology as Far as the Eye Can See!
Last school year (2015-2016) I finished enough training and PD courses to qualify to take over as the eCoach for my school. eCoaches are in charge of keeping up to date on the latest tech and training the staff on its usage. I have found this to be one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences of my career thus far. My current pet project is to make our school a one to one school and I hope to be able to work with my PTA and admin to make this dream a reality! (Image from Google Images.)
