I Get Sick
Unless I get better, I am not sure if my sister Alica and I will be able to enter America. I have never felt so miserable my whole life. -
We Get Detained
The guilt I am feeling is unbearable. Because of my illness the officeres detained both Alice and I. They think that I am contagious and spread my illness to others. -
I need to quit this job!
Ever since I took up a job as a maid, I have regretted it. Both Alice's and my jobs are not paying us enough and we both frequently get sick because of our living conditions. The worst bit is that the rich people detest Italians and any other immigrants. My mistress and all of her friends are unfair and prejudiced. They do not treat me well at all! I need to get out of here! -
The Homestead Act
This morning, I heard about something called the Homestead Act. Apparently you need to join a race for land and the winners get 160 acres of farming land for free. I discussed this with Alice and we decided that we wanted to move west. I better start saving money now. Who knew horses were so expensive? -
Denied the right to go west
After a long, hard couple weeks on the Oregon Trail we arrived at the last city on the map before we hit the wilderness. When Alice and I arrived, we were denied the right to claim land. Their idiotic reasoning was that we were women and wouldn’t be able to handle 160 acres of land ourselves. Now we have to live in the city until we find a man that will take us with him. -
Meet Ryan's family
Yesterday Alice met a nice man named Ryan. They hit it off pretty well so I think our chances of being able to claim land are good. -
Alice Marries Ryan!
This evening Alice is getting married to Ryan. Once she gets married, the three of us are going to pack are bags and set out on the trail the next morning. -
The Race for Land
We finally got our plot of land and achieved our American dream. We raced for land yesterday afternoon and got a nice plot by a lake. The feeling of wind rushing through your hair as you ride a horse through a sunny field is something uncomparable. We were extremely lucky and got a plot of land that will most likely give us a good harvest next fall. I think that I am set for the future and I am ready to attack any new challenge that comes my way.
