    In 1755 in Lisbon, Portugal there was a terrible earthquake. The earthquake was devastating and killed over 30,000 people (Grun 349). About 12,000 buildings were damaged and churches collasped in on worshippers. This event was important because so many lives were lost and the city had to rebuild itself.
  • Birth

    Birth
    Marie Antoinette was born on November 2nd, 1755 in Vienna (Plain 10). She was the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa (Bourgoin and Byers 258). Marie Antoinette was therefore a member of Austria's Habsburg Dynasty (Plain 10). This event is signifigant because Marie Antoinette became the Queen of France and the hatred of her would lead to a rebellion that caused the eradication of the French Monarchy for a peroid of time.
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart born

    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart born
    Composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 2nd 1756 (Grun 349). He was a child prodigy who was trained by his father Leopold. Mozart performed in front of Royal courts ("Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart"). This event is important because Mozart became one of the most famous composers in the world. Also his works have influenced many musicians.

    Discovery of Atmosphere of Venus
    Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov discovered the atmosphere of Venus in 1761 (Grun 353). He discovered its atmosphere when it crossed over the Sun. This event is important because the discovery lead to a better understanding of Venus. It also helped us to better understand the universe we live in and its origin.
  • Married Louis Auguste

    Married Louis Auguste
    Marie Antoinette of Austria married Louis Auguste of France on May 16th, 1770 at the Palace of Versailles. This marriage was arranged by her mother Maria Theresa and Louis's Grandfather Louis XV of France. The marriage united the once feuding nations and made them allies (Plain 10).
    This is important because the marriage caused an important alliance between France and Austria. Also the French people greatly disliked Marie because she was Austrian and the average person still disliked Austria.
  • 1st Edition of Encyclopedis Britannica

    1st Edition of Encyclopedis Britannica
    In 1771, the first edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica was published (Grun 356). It had three volumes and was sold in a printing office by a man named Colin Macfarquhar. This event was important because it lead to enhanced learning. People could go to a library and look up different topics in the encyclopedia to find out about them.
  • King Louis XV dies

    King Louis XV dies
    Louis' grandfather, King Louis XV of France died. Louis Auguste was his heir so therefore Louis becomes King of France and Marie Antoinette becomes the Queen of France (Plain 13). King Louis XV's death is a signifigant event. This event caused Marie Antoinette to become Queen of France, leading for the French people to blame her, the frivolous Austrian, for France's problems.

    In 1775, an inventor named James Watt completely perfected his invention of the steam engine (Grun 359).His invention was used to power machines and played a hand in the Industrial Revolution. The invention of the steam engine allowed for trains to be run on steam. This allowed people to be more connected and for trade to increase. Also machines could run on its power, leading to factories.

    In 1781, Marie Antoinette gave birth to a son. Therefore she gave France a Dauphin and gave Louis XVI an heir to the throne (Plain 25). The birth of Marie Antoinette's son is signifigant because it gave King Louis XVI an heir. The birth also pleased the people of France.
  • John Adams publishes "A Defence of the Constitution of Government of the USA"

    John Adams publishes "A Defence of the Constitution of Government of the USA"
    John Adams wrote a pamphlet defending the newly written Constitution (Grun 364). This helped to get the Constitution to become accepted. His work was published in a three volume series and distributed. This was important because it helped to get the Constitution approved. The Constitution's approval led to a more stable government in the USA ("John Adams").
  • Attack at Bastille Prison

    Attack at Bastille Prison
    The French Revolution picked up. A group of revolutionaries came to Batille and attacked it. The mob was successful in its attack and freed the prisoners. This terrified Marie Antoinette and ccaused her to want to flee. However, Louis XVI wanted to stay (Plain 29). This event is important because it showed how powerful the revolutionaries were. It also was one of the chances the Royal Family could have fleed but did not.
  • Royalist Banquet

    In October 1st of 1789, Marie Antoinette was celebrated at a Royalist banquet. At the Banquet, the French Revolution was critized and looked down upon (Bourgoin and Byers 258). This event was important because it denounced the Revolution probably causing the members of the Revolution to become infuriated and hate the Queen even more.
  • Attack at Versailles

    Attack at Versailles
    On October 5th, an armed mob came to Versailles. The next day, the mob stormed the palace looking for Queen Marie Antoinette. The mob wanted to capture and kill her. However, she escaped through a secret passageway (Plain 30). Then the Royal Family wastaken captive and forced to go to Paris by France's National Guard (Plain 31).
    This was signifigant because the French Monarchy was on its way to being destroyed. They were now captives of the French people.
  • Attempt to escape

    Marie Antoinette's good friend Count Axel Fersen tried to help the Royal Family escape to Montme'ay. However the escape attempt was a failure. The National Guard caught them (Plain 32). This event was important because the family tried to escape, the French people disliked them even more. Also it meant that the fate of the French Royal Family was probably to be imprisoned and put to death.
  • Attack at Tuileries

    Attack at Tuileries
    A mob attacked Tuileries Palace where Queen and her family were living while under constant watch. They where forced to flee into the Assembly where they entire family was imprisoned (Plain 34). This event is important because freedom was completely taken away from the Queen and her family. There was no hope left for them.
  • Death

    Death
    On October 16th of 1793, Marie Antoinette was killed. She was found guilty in of several charges and setenced to death. She was put to death by means of the guillotine (Plain 37). Marie Antoinette's death was important because it marked the end of the French monarchy for a period of time. When the monarchy was revived, it never was the powerful force it once was.
