    The U.S got this land by fighting in the American Recolution. Thomas Jefferson created the Decleration of Independece. This argues that all men posses unalienable rights. These rights were the right to life,liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This also argues that King George III violated the colonists rights. Lastly, Jefferson argued that the colonies have the right to break away from Great Britian.

    This land was obtained by the U.S by the Congress passing the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. This ordinance created the states now called Illinois, Indiana, MIchigan, Ohio, and Wisconnsin. Each of the five states had to have these five requirements to become a state. 1.) Each state had to have a governor appointed by Congress. 2.) The population of citizens had to be at 60,000. 3.) This land that was bought costed 15 million dollars. The lands that were bought were the Mississippi River, and the city of New Orleans. This additon to the United states almost doubled the size of our country.

    Mexico and the United States argued over the state of Texas. This land later led to the Mexican-American War. The treaty that ended this war was the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The states that were created from the Mexican Cession were present day states og California, Nevada, and Utah. This increased the size of the United States.

    The U,S got offered to buy land under the Gasden Purchase. The U.S was trying to avoid war. The U.S paid 10 million dollars for the states of Arizona, and New Mexico. Although this was the end of Manifest Destiny. The expansion of the United States was not complete. There was more land to become states.
