    The Louisiana Purchase
    The United States bought the Louisiana Territory form the French for $15 million. This nearly tripled the size of the US. This led to Manifest Destiny because it made the US larger and people wanted to explore this land.
  • Oregon Trail

    Oregon Trail
    The Oregon Trail is a 2000-mile trail running from the Mississippi River to the Oregon Country. It was mostly frequented by fur traders, large wheeled, covered wagons and emigrants. This led to Manifest Destiny because it was a way to travel to the west from the Mississippi.
  • Adams–Onís Treaty

    Adams–Onís Treaty
    In the Adams–Onís Treaty, Spain agreed to give up all claims on Florida and the US gave up all claims on Spanish Texas. Also, Oregon country became a joint occupation with Britian, and Russia. This helped to Manifest because it allowed the US to reach across the continent, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
  • Annexation of Texas

    Annexation of Texas
    The United States annexed Texas and admitted it to the Union as the 28th state. The US fought with Mexico about the Texas border. This helped to Manifest Destiny, because the US gained land and would later gain land as a result of the Annexation of Texas.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    As a result of the Annexation of Texas, Mexico went to war with America. In the end, the US won. the US payed Mexico $15 million dollars and gave them the Rio Grande border for Texas. Also, gave the US ownership of California, and a large area comprising New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. This helped to Manifest Destiny, because it gave America the New Mexico territory, which made America reach from sea to shining sea.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold Rush
    Hundreds of thousands of Americans flocked to the Pacific coast during 1849, when a lot of gold was discovered in the Sierra Nevada and northern parts of California. This led to Manifest Destiny because it caused a lot of people to go west, and after the Gold Rush, many people settled in California.
