Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Researched Thrillers
For the first few weeks we looked at the thriller genre and made a presentation on all the main conventions, mise-en-scene, camerwork, editing, sound etc. We also looked at diffrent thriller OTS. -

Prelim - OTS

Formed Groups + Planned our Prelim
We got put in groups of 3 to film the prelim exersize. We started by doing a storyboard of what we were going to film. We told each other what idead we had and then choose the one that sounded like it would work better. we all said what we would like to do and why and the gave the task to the person it would best suit. We went to the place that we were filming to get some ideas. -
Formed Groups + Planned our Prelim
The premilminary exercise was an introdution to the concepts and practical application of continuity filming and editing. We had certain rule that we had to follow when filming such as the 180 degree rule. We had to learn all these concepts from scratch and it wasent until we filmed that we actually understood them cproperly. This helped us when it came to filming our OTS. -
Filmed our Prelim
On the day we had one hour to film our Prelim. In that time we was able to get a few diffrent shots and agles to try out diffrent filming types. It was quite challening as none of us had used a cmera like that before but once we got the hang on it, it was fairley easy. -
Editing + Evauating our Prelim
Two days after filming our Prelim, we had an hour to edit our prelim and choose the music that would best fit it. We found the editing quite easy and we had someone to help put it together we just choose which shots looked better toghter. After that we had to start on our evaluation. -
Evaluation our Prelim
Looking back at our prelim i think it we work well together as a group. Some of the shots we had filmed did not look very well when we put it together but because we had done more then one we had alot to choose from. -

Early Novemeber, we was put into diffrent groups of 3/4's for our OTS. For the first lesson we all wrote down on paper our ideas and looked at what would work well and what wouldent. Then we started to creat a basic storyline for out OTS. -

While we were planning our OTS. We were able to talk about the shots we would use and how we would do them to create certain emotions. -

Over the next few lessons we changed our ideas quite abit until we came up with one that we think would suprize people. In one our our lessons we had to pitch our idea to the rest of the class and we got feedback from our teacher and what would and wouldnt work out properly. We then went back over everythign and made sure it all made sense. -

For one of the lessons we talked about where we were going to film, and then two of us went to recce our locations. This was helpful because we was able to imagine the shots better, we took pictures too show the others in our group. After that we started making a shotlist for out filming day. We had made a list of the props and costumes we are going to need for the day and we had our story boards to follow. -

From the recce i did a risk assesment to note down any problems that may happen and what we can do to prevent them. In the last few lessons we went over what we was going to film on the day and i made a shooting schedule to follow on the day so we dont loose track of time and put everyones numbers on, so if there were any problems we could contact each other. -
Filming OTS 1
On our filming day we met at college at 8:30 to collect our equiptment and we went out to our location. The wether wasnt as we planned for the day, it was snowing and we were filming outside all day. We though we'd just get though it and do it as quickly as we could, some of the shots we wanted to do didnt work because of the wether be we were able to change them. -
Filming OTS 2
Half was though filming our flashbacks, the cmaera ran out of battery and there wasent one in out camera bag so we had to go back to college. It was going to take an hour to re-charge and because it was so cold we chose to film inside the college instead because we was running our of time. So we had to change most of our shots to fit the location better. -
Filming OTS 3
It ws guite hard to film in college as people were always walking around and it was never really quiet, and then when we went over in to lunch time, it was even harder to get a tim where no one was walking around. So we dicided to stop filming and we chose a diffrent day to film and finish off our OTS. -
Filming OTS 4.
During our filming, we chose to film match on action a few times, to show that some emotions are repeating, and what ever is happening in the flsashbacks is effecting her again. -
Re-Filming OTS 1
On the day of our filming, we chose to film outside first as someone had a lessons and it was easer to get it over and done with quicker. We was able to finish the rest of our filming. -
Re-filming OTS 2
At the end of all our filming, we all though that it could have gone better but concidering all that had happend it was good that we managed to finish our filming. If i had to do the filming again i would make sure that we have a spare battery, and check the weather before i go out and make sure that we all have the correct clothing to be able to work in any weather. -
Editing OTS
we started our editing by doing a roung cut of out OTS. From there we could see what was and wasent working well and was able to see if we needed to do any further filming. Editing our OTS we alot harder then the prelim as we didnt have as much help as last time but once you had done the first few shots, the rest were easy. -

After we had started aditing our shots properly, we started looking and where out titles could go and what soundtacks we might use.
We used diffrent affects for the trasitions inbetween each frame, we used cross disolve, flsh to white and flash to black. -

We had finished the editing of shots for our OTS, so we not were putting on titles to our OTS. -

We had manages to edit our soundtrack on to our OTS well. We then showed our teacher to see if we needed to make any improvments. -

We were just finishing doing all the improvement ready for the comentry part. At the end of all our filming i think i lernt alot of new skills of how to edit a short film and i think we would be able to get done much quicker the second time round.
