As a group we decided that we wanted to film in an abandoned asylum.
-
We found a few possible asylum that we thought would be perfect for our film.
The possible asylums are;
- Kent County Asylum
- Hereford Lunatic Asylum
- West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum
- Leicestershire County Asylum
- Surrey County Lunatic Asylum
- Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum -
After looking into these asylums we found that they were all either too far away, still in use, been knocked down or turned into housing.
As a result of this we decided to look at asylums that are closer to us (in Essex). -
After a research we found there were three very close asylums.
These were;
- Severalls hospital
- Warley hospital
- Claybury hospital -
After even more research into the asylums we found that, just like the previous ideas, these were either still being used or turned into housing.
-
After meeting dead ends when it came to all the previous ideas, we decided that we needed to look on a much smaller scale as it would be very difficult for us to get permission to film in the for-mentioned places.
-
Extremely close to where I live, In Willingale, there were three Locations that I felt could be perfect for our film location.
-
The first was Torrells Hall Farm - This was a perfect location as it was isolated and could be presented as abandoned, however we later decided that it would also be very difficult for us to achieve permission to film in there as it is still in use.
-
The second location was an abandoned WW2 control room - This was also perfect as it is obviously abandoned, gave off a very creepy feel to it and was also very close to my house, however we later decided that it was far to scary and that there was no way we could achieve permission to film in there as it is very unstable and close to falling down.
-
The third location was s small engine room - This was in a very good location and it is isolated, however it was only a small room which went against the idea of playing hide and seek.
-
After looking at all the locations it was decided that none of them were suitable for our opening so we decided to keep looking.
-
A close family friend of mine owns a farm, and they had stated that they would let us use the barn, free of charge, for as long as we needed.
-
After looking round the barn it was decided that it was a perfect location to film our opening in, as it is old, abandoned and creepy, however accessible, practical and we could get permission to film in it.
-
As a group we finally decided, after about a month of location scouting, that we were going to be filming at Castle Farm Barn.
