Life of Jeffery Scott

  • Born/ Elgin, Scotland

I was born on a small chicken farm. My family is very poor and we live in our barn now because our house burnt down after our cow Bessy, knocked over a lantern and the fire spread to our house. Luckily, no on was injured. We have little food and water right now, and we are on the verge to moving to America. We are now trying to raise money for the long journey so we can make it across the North Atlantic Ocean.
  • Moving/ Arriving to America

I am 6 years old now and my family have raised just barley enough money to make it across the North Pacific Ocean to get to America. The reason we want to come to America is because we heard of the Gold in California. We will have to conserve our food resources, but if God helps us get through this, I'm sure we will make it. We arrive in New York City at about 8:30 in the morning. Everyone one is wanting to get off of the boat, people are pushing and shoving, people are falling off the boat
  • Ride Across the Country/ Arriving in California

We are out in New York City looking for a place were we can buy a ticket on a train across America. We find a nearby train station, buy the tickets, and once again start another long journey. This journey is estimated to take us about a month. We arrive in San Fransisco, California at about 11.45 in the morning on a bright sunny day. We go to a local convenient store looking for tools to mine and search for gold in the hills. After we spend almost all of our money on supplies, we go to a loc
  • Moving to the Hills

We arrive at an abandoned mine after traveling for about 2 days. After we arrived there we set up camp and started to prepare some food for dinner. My little brother and I played around the mine for a while when our parents were getting dinner ready. We saw a mining cart that lead down the old abandoned mine. We were about to crawl into it, but our parents called us over for dinner.
  • Mining the Hills

We took the old mining cart down slowly. When we reached the bottom of the mine, the whole place started to shake and rumble. The ceiling started to cave in and we headed for the exit, the exit was small and we could only go one at a time. We all got stuck and my parents backed out for my little brother and I to get out, and they were trapped in the mine. My little brother and I had to survive on our own. We both became ill, only I survived, and I moved back to Scotland to be with the rest.
