Louis XIV was born in the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye to Louis VIII and Anne who have been married for 23 years previously. He was given the name Louis Dieudonné (Louis the God-given) and also bore the traditional title of Dauphin.

When Louis' father Louis XIII died, Louis XIV became king at age four. He did not take full control of the government until Cardinal Mazarin Died.

When Cardinal Mazarin died, King Louis XIV took full control of the Government. He weakened the power of the Nobles by excluding them from his councils.

France and England declared war on the Dutch Republic in 1672, which started the Franco-Dutch War.

Louis controls over 100 nobles to assist him. He required hundreds of nobles to live with him in the pallace in Versilles, 11 miles southwest of Paris.

In 1700 Louis started another war. He defeated Charles II, causing the two gratest powers in Europe to be ruled by the French Bourbons. The war lasted until 1714.

Louis' last years were doleful. Realizing he ruined France, he was guilt-ridden for the suffering he brought unto his people. He died in bed in September of 1715.
