  • Part II chapter 11

    After Maureen is born, the family moves to a new town called Battle Moutain. The family rents a U-haul and the dad has the kids sit it the back with the furniture; the truck hits a bump and the door opens and one of the kids almost fly out. The dad finds out when a car passing by flashes and signals to him. Dad pulls over and closes the door.

  • Part II Chapter 12

    The family moves into a small wooden building in Battle Mountain. Dad buys a piano and rigs up some ropes and pulleys to get it inside. Mom slams the gas in the car to pull the piano into the house but she goes through and the piano ends up outside again.

  • Part II Chapter 13

    Dad gets a job as an electrician. Family occasionally goes out to eat but their diet mainly consists of beans. The family when together and bored like to read.

  • Part II Chapter 14

    Jeannette is usually the smartest student in school but when she's not in school, she's out with her brother hunting for rocks in the desert or scavenging the the dump. Jeannette and her brother make a lab where they create random things with what they find. The lab explodes one time and dad see's it happen, he rushes over to them and saves them hugging them close, happy they're safe.

  • Part II Chapter 15

    To make money, Jeannette and her brother collect cans and bottles and recycle them for change. Everyday while collecting, they pass by a "cathouse" called the Green Lantern and the women there do different things for money. Brian likes to talk to one of the ladies and says shes nice.

  • Part II Chapter 16

    Dad tries to teach Jeannette how to swim and so he throws her into a hot spring. She sinks multiple times and each time he throws her back in. They keep doing this until she learns how to swim.

  • Part II Chapter 17

    Dad lost his job as an electrician and he had for a solid 6 months. The family must now scavenge for food and sometimes eat straight margarine as a meal. Mom and dad get into an argument that dad isn't bringing enough money home to care for the family. The fights gets so crazy that mom end up jumping out the second story window. Mom scream's dad is trying to kill her but dad is saying she jumped. Dad goes outside and pulls her back inside, they later makeup.
