    אנכי ה
Date: The 10 commandments take place on 6th of Sivan
According to the Rambam, "Anochi Hashem..." comes first because it is the baseline and the Jews must accept Hashem as our God and King and only then can we accept his decrees.
  • Period: to

    6th of Sivan

  • לא יהיה

    לא יהיה
According to the Ramban (20:2-3), "Li Y'Hiyeh..." comes next to teach us that not only do we have to recognize Hashem as our God, but additionally, we aren't allowed to have any other Gods aside from him and we hsouldn't attribute godliness to anything else.
  • לא תשא

    לא תשא
The Ramban (Shemot 20:7) explains the order of " Li Tisa" here as just as you have to respect God's name exclusivelly, you also have to respect his name and treat it with dignity. It's so severe becuase it's very much connected to Avoda Zarah, becuase taking away from God's nae is taking away his respect.
  • זכור את

    זכור את
According to the Ramban (Shemot 20:8), the three prior commandments are all things to know or think and now we need a sign that God is our creator, so we have the commandment of Shabbos. Shabbos is supposed to be a physical sign for us to remember that God created usand Shabbos is a way to show that Hashem is our creator of heaven and hell, it's a testimony of our faith.
  • כבד את

    כבד את
According to the Ramban (Shemot 20:12) the other commandments to "Kaved Et" is a transition from Bein Adam L'Chavero to Bein Adam L'Maakom. Just like we show respect to the creator, we have to show our to respect to our mother and father becuase they too are our creators as well and creators' deserve respect.
  • לא תרצח

    לא תרצח
According to Ramban (Shemot 20:13): After going from recogizing God and his creations to respecting our parents becuase they also had a role in the creation, we begin talking about the rules for God's creations and we begin with don't kill my creations.
  • לא תנאף

    לא תנאף
According to Ramban (Shemot 20:13): Now God is going more in depth about the rules of his creations. He is going from don't kill my creations to don't committ adultery becuase that will confuse people over who the creators are.
  • לא תגנוב

    לא תגנוב
According to Ramban (Shemot 20:13): We are then commanded not to take from God's creations, meaning / refrencing kidnapping, becuase it will then confuse the line of creation/
  • לא תאנה

    לא תאנה
According to Ramban (Shemot 20:13): We are then commanded not to be false witnesses because that can also lead to stealing and we don't want to confuse the line of creation.
  • לא תחמוד

    לא תחמוד
According to Ramban (Shemot 20:13): Lastly, we are commanded not to be jealous becuase it prevents any damage of other people's properties becuase you're not supposed to think about what others have and what you want. In conclusion, the 10 commandments start off with commandments that are Bein Adam L'Maakom and gradually we see a shift into commandmants of Bein Adam L'Chavero.
