    in 1935 Jackie enrolled in John Muir High School. he was involved in several sports and lettered in four of them football, baseball, track ,and basketball. he played shortstop and catcher in baseball. in football he played quarterback. he was a guard in basketball. in track he won the award for broad jump.

    from 1942 to 1944 Jackie was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was court martialed in 1944 for refusing to move seats on a segregated bus. Thanks to his reputation and the NAACP the charges were dropped and was given a Honorable Discharge.

Branch Rickey president of the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Jackie to a contract with the Montreal Royals a minor league team for the Dodgers. after a good year with the Royals he was moved up to the professional level with the Dodgers. when he played baseball he had 137 home runs, 4877 times at bat, 734 runs batted in, and 197 stolen bases.
