    Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. His family was very poor, they were also sharecroppers. His mother was single and had to work very hard for her 5 children, Jackie, Willa Mae, Edgar, Frank, and Mack. Jackie eventually learned to make his own way of life.

    For highschool, Jackie went to UCLA. While attending UCLA he won Varsity Letters for the baseball, football, basketball, and track teams. He was the only one to do that. Later he got kicked out of UCLA because of finacial hardship. He then went to John Muir highschool.

    When Jackie graduated high school he joined the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Leagues. He played with them for one season, then Branch Rickey gave him a career changing offer.

    During the time when Jackie was making a deal with Branch Ricky, Jackie married Rachel Isum. They met in high school at UCLA . She was a nursing student there.

    Branch Rickey was looking for a fantastic Negro League player. He wanted one who had enough perserverence and wouldnt fight back. He thought that Jackie was the one. He took in a lot of threats, racism, critism, and more. It was hard being the only black player ont the team. Some feilds wouldn't even let them play a game because Jackie was on the team.Also some people would stop buying tickets to come see the games.

    Jackie won an award called "Rokkie of the year", which means he was the best rookie. A rookie is a new player, so he was the best new player of the year. He had an outstanding batting average of .297 in his first year! He also led National League in stolen bases.

    After 10 years with the Dogers, Jackie Robinson helped the Dodgers win the World Series against the Yankees. Every year his feilding and batting average went up. Branch Rickey was right, Jackie was the one.

    Jackie got into the hall of fame in 1962 , and he deserved it. He was an outstang baseball player, on his first year in the major leagues he already had a batting average of .297.

    Jackie Robinson had 3 chilldren, Jackie Jr., Sharon, and David. When Jackie Jr. was in his 20's he got in a car crash and died, this was caused from drug addiction. If your wondering about Sharon and David, David died at the age of 47, and Sharon is still alive to this day.

    Jcakie Robinson had an unforgetable career. Sadly he died at the age of 53 on October 24, 1972. Jackie had a lot of perserverence, he didnt fight back at all the critism, racism, and threats, just so he could play his favorate sport. The number 42 is a special number. Mariano Rivera was the last MLB player to wear that number. He retired on April 15, 1997, on the 50th anniversery of Jackie Robinson's first game when he broke the colored barrier.
