Inventions of the Industrial Revolution

  • Steam Engine

    Steam Engine
The steam engine was invented by Thomas Savery to help remove water from the bottom of coal mines. This invention was the foundation for many redesigns and remodels in the future. The steam engine also enabled many factories that played a key roll during the Industrial Revolution to be built.
  • Flying Shuttle

    Flying Shuttle
In 1733, John Kay invented the Flying Shuttle which helped increase the speed of the weaving process. The invention also required the creation of faster spinning yarns to feed the faster looms. Weavers could now pull a cord attatched to the shuttle to weave any width of fabric at a faster speed.
  • Spinning Jenny

    Spinning Jenny
James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny in Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire in England. The invention reduced the amount of effort needed to create yarn. With this machine, one worker could cover eight spools at once!
  • Cotton Gin

The invention was needed to speed up the process of cleaning cotton.
  • Phonograph

    Phonograph
The Phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. The phonograph was the first invention that was able to produce a recorded sound.
