Atticus vs. Mad Dog
Here, Atticus shoots a "mad dog" very quickly and efficiently, which Scout and Jem had never seen him do before and thought he hated guns. -
Jem Breaks Down
Jem breaks down after Mrs. Dubose insults Atticus in front of them and directs it towards them. He then takes Scouts newly aqquired baton and procedes to mutilate Mrs. Dubose's camellia bushes and snaps Scouts new baton in half, then they go home, Atticus finds out and makes Jem go to Mrs. Dubose's house and read to her. -
Summer Complications
Summer has just come upon Maycomb and Jem was being a usual 12 year old boy, as Scout says, he is hard to be around. Also, Dill has not come that summer because he and his dad were going to be building a boat. Then, the state legislature called for Atticus and he had to leave for two weeks. -
Aunt Alexanrda Moves in!
The title is pretty self-explainatory but, here Aunt Alexandra (Aunty) moves in. -
Calpurnia Takes Jem and Scout to Church
Since Atticus had to go away for two weeks on buisness, Calpurnia decided to take them to church, a black curch. As they are trying to enter they run into some trouble but it gets broken up by the local garbage man, Zeebo, and they go to church. Once they are in they seem to get pressed for money for Tom Robinsons wife, showing Scout and Jem what a black church is like and the situation Tom Robinson and his family are in. -
Atticus Disapproves of Finch Family
Here Atticus was told by Aunty to impress upon Scout and Jem the importance of knowing about the Finch family and how important it is to know they're Finches, and we he tries Scout asks him if him being like how he was just then was going to change anything and how she couldd't remember everything the Finches did, to which he replied: "I don't want you to remember it. Forget it." -
Aunty Disapproves of Calpurnia
Aunty shows Atticus just how much she disapproves of Cals presence and how she thinks it's time for Cal to leave the house. Atticus quite clearly does not agree and says that Cal will stay in the house until SHE wants to leave and how important she has been to him, Scout, and Jem. -
Bedtime!
Jem takes Scout up to his room and trys to tell her not to upset Aunty or he'll spank her...she didn't like that, so she starts fighting him and she is definitely winning until Atticus pulls them apart and sends them to bed. When Scout is going to bed she steps on something that she thinks is a snake, but it turned out to be Dill hiding under her bed. -
Men Gather Outside
Men gather in the front yard, one of them being Heck Tate, and they are looking for Atticus, once he goes out he talk with them a long time and comes back in, they were talking about Tom Robinson, and Scout, Jem, and Dill see most of it. -
Mr. Cunningham Gets Called Out
Here, Scout, Jem, and Dill come to the aid of Atticus, although they didn't know it at first. S A mob came to kill Tom Robinson, but Atticus is in the way, just as they are about to possibley hurt him Scout bursts in, and finds Mr. Cunningham mong the mob, and calls him. From there she talkks him down and the mob leaves, she saves Atticus.
