  • European trade with Africa vecomes Well established

    In the 1850 the Europeans were trying to get at Africas raw materials. They began setting up mines and trade routes. They oftened took advantage of africans.
  • East India Company collapses due to Sepoy Rebellion; British Raj begins

    This became a war when muslims were asked to bited off cartriges that were greased with animal fat. This when agaist their spiritual beliefs and they started a rebellion.
  • Suez Canal links the Mediterranean and Red Seas

    This canal built by the egyptians and the french would be a mojor power because it would cut down on the time trading with the eastern companies. THis canal would eventually be taken over by the british.
  • Berlin Conference convenes to discuss terms for African colonization

    This conference set up by the Belgium king was to divided africa between the major powers of Europe. No africans were invited to this conference causing major issue because the dividing lines did not respect any of the africans.
  • Queen Liliuokalani takes the throne of Hawaii

    Queen Liliuokalani despite being the third child was able to accend the thrown due to the deaths of the sibilings that the throne rightfuly belonged to. As queen she was able to limit her own power and write a constitution. Her ruled ended with the arrival of the Americans.
  • Ethiopians defeat the invading Italians at the Battle of Adwa

    This battle where Ethiopian forces defeated the invading Italian troops under Emperor Menelik II. Ethopia had before remained independent by deciving other contries and playing them agaist each other. All the while they gathered guns in an attempt to modernize the country.
  • Spanish-American War breaks out; Puerto Rico, Spain, and the Philippines taken from Spain

    This war between the United States and Spain was started by the people. People heard of the attrocities going on in countries and forced the american's to take action.
  • Boer War in South Africa

    This war between the boers, Dutch farmers, and the british was fought over land in south africa. This would eventually lead to the great trek meaning that the Boers lost and had to move.
  • Most of Africa is under European control

    After many wars and conflict the Europeans had eventually acheived their goal of carving up africa. All the countries except Liberia and Ethopia were under European control.
