    Europeans encounter the Egyptians.
    The Napoleonic wars made Europeans ecounter the Egyptians. General Napoleon of France arrived at the nile river in 1798 in the hopes to disrupt the Bristish's trade. He was not successful in doing so, however he defeated the Egyptians Ottoman. Napoleon's invasion sparked a interest in ancient Egypt. They soon discovered the new science of "Egyptology," when a group of French soilders found a tablet that had inscriptions that scholars decrypted later.

    Egypt was somewhat unkwown, Europeans have not explored or encountered Egyptians very often. The location of Egypt was somewhat difficult to travel to. One of the few encounters was during the Crusades, where Christians fought againist the Muslims for the Holy land of Jerusalem. The purpose of heiroglyphics, pyramids, and temples were unkwown althought they were seen.

    Mehemet Ali
    Established his own independent government in Egypt by 1811. He invaded Sudan and Syria, created an education system that was infulenced by the French, nationalized all farm land, expanded territories, and introduced new crops and technologies. However not all Egyptians did not like Ali's effort to modernize the country. Ali died in 1849

    The Suez Canal opened in 1869. By 1882 British merchants went to flooded Egypt and within the 13 years. The capacity of freight increased from under half million to five million tons. Britain was extremely successful and made lots of money.

    The arguement that Egypt was going to be an anarchy was threatning the Suez Canal. Britain was asking for any international support to stop the process of Egypt becoming an anarchy. Britain recieved no aid, so they acted on their own and conquered the canal and defeated the Egyptian army at Tel El Kebir. This made Egypt under Britain's rule and help secure the trade route to India. Britain oversaw the finicial aspect of the canal, which made more money for the British.

    During the times when Egypt was under Britain's rule, Egypt became a regional commercial area and a trading destination. People from less stable areas such as Greeks, Jews, and Armineans. The number of foreigners increased over the years. The type of rule that was used in Egypt was Condominium government or sovereignty meaning supreme power. The British had supreme power over the people of Egypt.

    Britain's Imperialism affected Egypt in several ways. It declined the Egyptian's economy, messed up their government which caused families to not have enough materials to support their families. The people were not happy, were very miserable because of the British occupying Egypt

    Effects of WW1 in Egypt
    The war brought many Australians, British, & colonial troops to Cario. The Arabs revolted againist the Turks for national liberation. Soon European Cario became a madhouse, a place where political schemes and issues going around. British soilders were enjoying living the good life, while the Egyptians were suffering. They had poverty, malnutrition, & there was inflation in the markets making it harder for the people to afford anything, The goofing off of the British angered Egyptians.

    The colonial troopers that were in Cario angered the Egyptians, making them want independence. They were tired of the troopers getting drunk, having good living conditions while the Egyptians were suffering. After WW1 President Wilson's 'Fourteen points,' plan gave Egypt hope for an independent nation. When Saad Zaghlul arrested for asking Egypt to be an independent nation, the people went nuts. Egypt revolted againist the British killing their soilders and Cario became a revolutionary city.
